The band is sounding great even after all of these years.

Picasso Doodle For Sale
This doodle of a horse is believed to have only take Pablo Picasso seconds to do but when it goes on sale October 1 it is expected to sell for more money than some people earn in a year. Duke's auctioneers in Dorset, England expect the piece to sell for around 20,000 pounds. The picture comes with a letter from Picasso's daughter, Maya Widmaier, saying it is authentic. The sketch appeared on a page of a book of photographs featuring Picasso by the renowned American photographer David Douglas Duncan.

Not Just Girls Fun
The lead singer of the San Francisco band Girls grew up in a cult. He watched his brother die because of the cult's policy against medicine a tragedy that caused his farther to leave. His mother was forced to work as a prostitute in order to provide money for the cult and also to recruit new members. All of this brings a sense of realness to the tortured songs the band sings.
On a lighter note these "day in the life" style videos of the band partying in SF make me a little melancholy for my time there.

This Is Not What A Democracy Does
In this video from the G20 we see a unmarked car pull up to some protesters, several men in fatigues hop out and grab a man and throw him in the car. This is some shit that happened in Iran over the summer not what you expect to see in Democracy. If this man was arrested he should have been read his Miranda Rights but this looks more like an abduction.
The Daily Show At The G20
Looks like next week we can expect to see the Daily Shows Jon Oliver reporting from the G20 summit in Pittsburgh. He seems to be impressed with the riot police's ability to stay on message but not too happy with the protesters

Soccer And The Human Condition
Kicking It is a film that follows six soccer players as they compete in the Homeless World Cup. Over forty teams from all across the globe meet in Johannesburg, South Africa for the ten day tournament. The film focuses on the struggles of the players who are trying to overcome extreme obstacles such as drug addiction and trying to survive in war torn countries. These are really touching stories about the forgotten people in our society who play for the pride of country who have pushed them under the rug. I think I would rather watch these guys play instead of over paid professional athletes any day. This years Homeless world cup took place in Milan and the Ukraine won the tournament.

Sailing Through A Sea Of Stupidity
One voice of reason against a mass of morons. I thought these people were all about the Constitution, I guess the first amendment only applies to speech they agree with.

Jim Carroll R.I.P.
The New York City poet and musician died last Friday at the age of 60 of an apparent heart attack. In the late seventies he fronted the Jim Carroll Band who got a record deal with a little help from Keith Richards. Much like Patti Smith he was taken in by the early punk rock scene that was exploding in NYC at the time. He is best know for his book Basketball Diaries about his young days as a high school basketball star who lived a double life as a junkie and hustler.

Media Please Stop Giving These Guys A Platform
If this keeps up I might be forced to start telling people that I'm a light skinned Brazilian or something. It's getting to the point were it is almost embarrassing to be white in this country.
Unlike these rednecks at these Teabagger Rallies lots of us have enough of an understanding of history to no that the Nazi's did not stand for universal health care.
So stop putting these idiots on TV every hour like they somehow speak for the majority of us.

Teabagapalooza
Hey today is Glenn Beck's big group teabagging event at the Capital. I hear the music is going to be great, like this jam.
Here is Jason Linkins' from Huffington Posts review of the track.
This is just the sort of funk that the Panic of 1873 needed. Look for "American Tea Party Anthem" on the forthcoming Goin' Galt! Songs of Twenty-First Century Fake Populism, along with Billy Bragg's "Marching Song Of the Covert Battalions" and a bunch of Spiro Agnew speeches remixed by Girl Talk.

Graffiti Vs. Art
Interesting article the U.K. paper Telegraph about the city of Bristol's plans to let it's citizens vote on whether to keep or remove graffiti. The idea is that people can go online and vote to keep the graffiti if they like it. Bristol is home to the street artist Banksy whose exhibit at the Bristol Museum has attracted over a quarter of a million people. If this works it would be great to see this catch on in other cities with a history of great street art.
The Two Sides Of Mike Tyson
The thing I found most surprising about the "Tyson" documentary was the way Mike could change the way you feel about him from scene to scene. One minute he comes across as a perfectly rational human being the next he's a crazed animal. If nothing else you realize what a truly complicated man the former champ is.
