The themes in Audrey Kawasaki's work are contradictions within themselves. Her work is both innocent and erotic. Each subject is attractive yet disturbing. Audrey's precise technical style is at once influenced by both manga comics and Art Nouveau. Her sharp graphic imagery is combined with the natural grain of the wood panels she paints on, bringing an unexpected warmth to enigmatic subject matter.
The figures she paints are seductive and contain an air of melancholy. They exist in their own sensually esoteric realm, yet at the same time present a sense of accessibility that draws the observer to them. These mysterious young women captivate with the direct stare of their bedroom eyes.

Star Wars Themed Car Wash

This past Saturday, there was a car wash event in L.A. It was a car wash staffed by attractive girls in Star Wars costumes, mostly Slave Leia. So basically, for a price, a gaggle of Slave Leias washed your car. The proceeds benefited the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Band You Should Know - The Bongos
Now now we would probably call The Bongos an Indie Rock or Indie Pop band but in the 80's at the height of New Wave the band did not fit in. It's because of this "do your own thing" attitude that the bands songs do not sound dated like much of the music from that era. The bands signature sound was a jangly guitar and deceptively simple lyrics. The 27 track reissue of Drums Along The Hudson is well worth your time and money.

Miami Salutes Its Skateboarding Subculture

A ten year retrospective on skateboarding in Miami, "The MIA Program" looks at the city's stirring subculture through the lenses of photographers Ian O'Connor and Frankie Galland, as well as with skate-inspired paintings by artist Taylor Kienholz.
The MIA Program returns for a month-long showcase at local hangout Kill Your Idol after debuting to a packed house in a 24-hour-long exhibition of the same name at the beginning of 2010. The exhibit aptly portrays its host city with images spanning all neighborhoods—from the gutters in seedy Liberty City to half pipes inside the clubs of South Beach, The MIA Program is as much about the culture and backdrop surrounding the Miami skate scene as it is about the medium or the sport itself.

Meditating To Fight Cancer With MCA

wanted to send this out to you guys in case you were into it, or wanted to give it to anyone who you think might be.
a few friends and i are meditating at the same time twice a day. 9:30am and 6:30pm eastern standard time, for about an hour and half.
we are picturing smashing apart all of the cancer cells in the world.
we are visualizing taking the energy away from the cancer, and then sending it back at the cancer as lightening bolts that will break apart the DNA and RNA of the cells. if you have the time, please join us in whipping up this lightening storm. mind over matter…...
if you prefer to sit then sit, but if you are not used to meditating, or sitting quietly doesn’t sound like fun, put on some music and dance while you do the visualization, and if you want to do it at some other time, or picture curing some other illness that’s fine too. yoko will be joining the meditation by visualizing all of us dancing with joy to celebrate the world without cancer. all variations are welcome. this is really just being done with a wish for all beings to be cured of all illnesses and to find true lasting happiness.
i’ll also be saying prayers for the earthquake victims in tibet, so join in on that if you can too.

R.I.P. Guru
Sad news today that rapper Guru has passed away after battling cancer at the way too young age of 43. Guru was one half of Gang Starr along with DJ Premier. Their mix of jazz samples, dope beats and wordy lyrics is what hip hop should be about.
