Why the size?
We have kept the width the same as the existing dollars. However we have changed the size of the note so that the one dollar is shorter and the 100 dollar is the longest. When stacked on top of each other it is easy to see how much money you have. It also makes it easier for the visually impaired to distinguish between notes.
Why a vertical format?
When we researched how notes are used we realized people tend to handle and deal with money vertically rather than horizontally. You tend to hold a wallet or purse vertically when searching for notes. The majority of people hand over notes vertically when making purchases. All machines accept notes vertically. Therefore a vertical note makes more sense.
Why different colors?
It’s one of the strongest ways graphically to distinguish one note from another.
Why these designs?
We wanted a concept behind the imagery so that the image directly relates to the value of each note. We also wanted the notes to be educational, not only for those living in America but visitors as well. Each note uses a black and white image depicting a particular aspect of American history and culture. They are then overprinted with informational graphics or a pattern relating to that particular image.
$1 – The first African American president
$5 – The five biggest native American tribes
$10 – The bill of rights, the first 10 amendments to the US Constitution
$20 – 20th Century America
$50 – The 50 States of America
$100 – The first 100 days of President Franklin Roosevelt. During this time he led the congress to pass more important legislations than most presidents pass in their entire term. This helped fight the economic crises at the time of the great depression. Ever since, every new president has been judged on how well they have done during the first 100 days of their term.

KAWS X Dos Equis
This collaboration between the Mexican Beer company and the artist KAWS makes a lot of sense when you think about it. After all Dos Equis means two X's and KAWS signature style involves X's over his characters eyes. This video shows how the collaboration went down.
Rush Limbaugh Vs. Non Profits
Fat sack of crap Rush Limbaugh recently called people who work for Non Profit organizations "lazy idiots who are raping the economy". Robert Egger who runs DC Central Kitchen had this to say to Mr. Limbaugh.
A Great Day For Jazz Lovers
This year the National Jazz Museum in Harlem acquired the entire set of nearly 1,000 discs, made at the height of the swing era, and has begun digitizing recordings of inspired performances by Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Billie Holiday, Count Basie, Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young, Bunny Berigan, Harry James and others that had been thought to be lost forever. Some of these remarkable long-form performances simply could not fit on the standard discs of the time, forcing Mr. Savory to find alternatives. The Savory Collection also contains examples of underappreciated musicians playing at peak creative levels not heard anywhere else, putting them in a new light for music fans and scholars.
“Some of us were aware Savory had recorded all this stuff, and we were really waiting with bated breath to see what would be there,” said Dan Morgenstern, the Grammy-winning jazz historian and critic who is also director of the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers University. “Even though I’ve heard only a small sampling, it’s turning out to be the treasure trove we had hoped it would be, with some truly wonderful, remarkable sessions. None of what I’ve heard has been heard before. It’s all new.”

"Just as graffiti or street art, “shoeffiti” (hanging used trainers1 from overhead telephone and electric cables around town) has gone global. There’s been a lot of talk about what it means. Whether it came about to mark out turf, to flag hotspots, the sale of drugs, the death of a gang member or just as a fetishized homage to some jaunt, for me, isn’t so important. But ... it’s turned out to be the new urban metaphor.

Samiam - Clumsy
In 1994 Samiam released Clumsy their major label debut on Atlantic Records. Clumsy was not a happy album. The albums biggest hit "Capsized" is sung from the perspective of a abusive husband " hate you still yet i imitate you you're in my dreams pushing me around i move my mouth i watch her cry its killing me and you wonder why". From there we move on to "Stepson" featuring lines like "I'm free he can't touch me six feet down and there's no sadness". Still it's not all gloom and doom, two thirds of the way thru we get "Simca" a love note to the author's car. Probably the best track on the album is musically update and lyrically down trodden "Bad Day" Which starts off with the lines "it's been another bad day just saw a dog get hit on the freeway with my stomach in my mouth i almost hit a truck driving in the next lane spent all my money on beer and i've got rent to pay". This track has been a bit of an anthem for me at very times of my life, particularly that part about beer.
