Radioactive Fish Flyer

They’ve come up with a really great idea on how to publicize the results of some of their radiation tests of fish from Japanese supermarket shelves. A fake advertisement flier, listing the amounts of cesium instead of prices.
And the message it sends is very clear: Greenpeace could not find any fish that contained radiation exceeding legal safety limits. The legal limit for Japan is 500 becquerels per kilogram. The highest amount of radiation they found in one fish was 47.3 Bq/kg, or less than one tenth the limit.

When You Think BP Think......

These photos from the front page of the Huffingtonpost make me sick to my stomach. Today the company began running damage control ads to try and repair their tattered image. Good luck with that.

When Life Gives You Oil Spills.....

This topical piece of street art was done by Priest in Mobile Alabama. Lets hope some of the Molotov's are aimed at BP's corporate offices.

Seed Bombs

Via. Cool Hunting:

Seed bombs—a simple mixture of clay, fertilizer and plant seeds—are a favored form of DIY "drop-and-go" weaponry among gardeners taking the greening of public spaces into their own hands. To aid the expansion of the guerrilla gardening movement in its persistent goal of transforming forgotten or abandoned urban landscapes into greener spaces, L.A.-based design firm Common Studio came up with pre-made seed bombs.

Dawn Cleans Birds

As the situation in the Gulf of Mexico continues to get more and more fucked at least one corporation is showing some good citizenry. It turns out that Dawn liquid is the best thing available to clean birds and other animals contaminated by the spill. The company had rushed 1000 bottles to the effected area. They’re also donating $1 to the IBRRC and the Marine Mammal Center for every bottle of soap sold.

The Story Of Bottled Water

Great video outlining just how ridiculous bottled water is. Whether its a quality and cleanliness issue or the damage it does to the environment bottled water is plain dumb.

Coal Burning Power Plant

Coal Power Plant Timelapse from Jeff Grewe on Vimeo.

Wow, the coal industry certainly would not want this time lapse video of one of their plants running anywhere near the "coal is the future of energy" commercials I see on TV all the time. It's pretty scary that some people have to breathe that air.

The Big Let Down

Two stories that I have read the last couple days really bring about the reality of what the Obama administration has failed to do, lead. The first was about the U.S. not signing on to the International campaign To Ban Landmines. This mirrors the Bush administration who you could expect to side against doing the right thing. The majority of the victims of landmines are innocent people killed years after whatever conflict they were for is over. One third of the victims are children who happen to wander into an unmarked mine field.

The other story that caught my eye was about the Obama administration lagging on adding to the endangered species list. At this point he has only added two, both of which are plants. George Bush was not a man know for his commitment to the environment but at this rate Obama will provide less protection to endangered wild life than the Texas oilman did. At present there are 250 species that are in danger but are stuck in the limbo of being "considered" a candidate for the list. I know the man has a full plate but conservationist worked their asses off to get him elected and deserve more than this.

The Age Of Stupid

The Age Of Stupid is a new movie about a man living in 2055 looking back to our time and wandering why we didn't do anything to stop Global Warming.
