The San Francisco Happiness Project
"Inspired by Paris artist, Jerome G. Dermuth, we've taken on 7 (more to follow) swing installation in San Francisco as part of an ongoing Happiness Project aimed at loss of youth. The short video below shows the installation, scouting, and lots of footage of randoms using the swings with complete and utter joy as they relent to a push and some wind in their hair. Watch it through. The joy as this autistic kid's father's face as he gets on a swing for the first time in 40 years is our parting shot. It's pure and simple bliss that's sadly been long ignored and forgotten."

Huf Footwear Comercials
I'm getting a serious case of homesickness watching these commercials for Huf Footwear. I definitely recognize a lot of the spots and can almost feel the wheels under my feet as I imagine riding through the streets of SF on a sunny day.

Punk Rock A to Z
The Avengers
Punk Rock A to Z is a new feature where we will go through the alphabet looking punk bands that have made an impact on the genre.
Today we look at the San Francisco band The Avengers. The Avengers were one of the first wave of punk bands that exploded on the scene around 1977. The band was fronted by female singer Penelope Houston a rarity in the male dominated scene. The Avengers might be best known for opening up for the Sex Pistols on their destructive final show in San Francisco.

The Sand Art Of Jim Denevan

Jim Denevan is a Northern California artist who makes large scale designs utilizing sand, earth and ice. Using only a stick or rake Denevan creates massive geometric shapes similar to crop circles. From the look of these pictures many of these designs were done at my favorite morning surf spot in San Francisco. Unfortunately he must wake up later than I did because I never got to see one of these first hand.

Tommy Guerrero - Future Primative 1985
This segment of Tommy G. skating the hills of San Fransisco made me want to move there when I was a kid. Years later I did move there and those hills are steeper than they look. Still skating the empty streets of China Town at 3 a.m. after a few too many pints is a good time.

Living With Nature

The new Academy of Sciences building in San Francisco's Golden Gate park is alive. Native plant life cover the 197,000 square feet that also features seven hills in a homage to the cities undulating seven hills. The building is also insulated with recycled blue jeans and is scattered with large solar energy panels. If this is the future of architecture in the era of green technology count me in.
