Beatles Modile Toys: Fresh For 2010

Spotted at the 2010 Toy Fair these die cast Beatles toys should be a big hit. Consisting of cars, buses and even a submarine these toys are based off of classic albums like Hard Days Night, Sgt. Pepper, Magical Mystery tour, etc.

The Beatles VS. Wu-Tang

My expectations for this were pretty low considering Danger Mouse did something similar with The Beatles and Jay-Z not to mention my low tolerance for mash-ups these day. However, this thing is really good and it's free to download here.

Beatle-ology 101

Liverpool Hope University (in The Beatles hometown) will be offering a masters program called "The Beatles, Popular Music and Society. The Director of the program Mike Brocken said "students would be expected to study the Beatles' songs, stardom, hometown and cultural impact through four 12-week courses and a dissertation." No mention if the the class will tackle the post Beatles life of the Fab Four. Lennon's antiwar history seems like it would be interesting.

The Real Political Beatle

In an English magazine this week Paul McCartney claims that it is in fact he and not John Lennon who was the real political member of the Beatles. Most Beatles fans would probably say that Lennon who wrote "Revolution" and "Give Peace A Chance" was the true liberal in the band. Lennon also conducted his "bed in" with wife Yoko to protest the Vietnam War and was a noted enemy of Richard Nixon. Paul however claims that after a meeting with Philosopher Bertrand Russell it was he who talked to John about what a bad war Vietnam was. It seems to me that Paul may have introduced these ideas to John but did not have the same courage and conviction to vocalize these beliefs as John Lennon did. It comes down to the old saying that "actions speak louder than words."

Classic Albums Lego(ized)

Man as a kid Lego was my favorite toy. I would spend hours building the ships from cartoons like MASK, G.I. Joe and Robotech. Maybe if I had kept that big bucket of Lego into adulthood I would have done something like this.
