Superman Is No Longer American

In an America where we witness Gitmo, Abu Ghraib, the sanctioning of torture and lies that lead us into wars it is no surprise that "truth, justice and the American way aren't cutting for anyone anymore, not even Superman. From Comics Alliance:

The key scene takes place in "The Incident," a short story in Action Comics #900 written by David S. Goyer with art by Miguel Sepulveda. In it, Superman consults with the President's national security advisor, who is incensed that Superman appeared in Tehran to non-violently support the protesters demonstrating against the Iranian regime, no doubt an analogue for the recent real-life protests in the Middle East. However, since Superman is viewed as an American icon in the DC Universe as well as our own, the Iranian government has construed his actions as the will of the American President, and indeed, an act of war.

Funnyman the World's First Jewish Superhero

Funnyman was a short lived comic book series created by Superman's Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Via. Boing Boing

Funnyman was a clown-like superhero who used gags, pranks and Yiddishisms to defeat his humor-deficient enemies. He was a dead ringer for Danny Kaye, one of my favorite comedians. The comic book was a total flop. It ran for six issues and went out of business. Siegel and Shuster tried to keep it going as a newspaper strip, but gave up after a year. The team never worked together again.

Superman VS. Muhammad Ali

In the fall of 1978 DC Comics released this issue in which the man from Krypton and Muhammad Ali went toe to toe in the ring. The basic premise is that Superman and Ali have to fight to determine who is Earth's mightiest hero in order to decide who will fight an alien races greatest warrior. With Superman stripped of his powers Ali of course wins the match.

A Million Dollar Comic

Published in 1938 Action Comics issue one was the first to feature Superman. On Monday an issue was posted for sale online and within a minute was sold for a million dollars which is more than three time the previous record for this comic. Only a hundred issues of this comic are know to exist and only two (including the one sold) are known to be in good condition.
