In the village of Bilin protesters meet each week to bring attention the Israel's massive security wall that they see as a land grab. Last week they got a lot of attention for their cause when they dressed like characters from the film Avatar.

Subversive Ceramics

Artist Carrie Reichardt has taken these ceramic plates you might find in your Grandma's house and added some subtle changes. Taking her cues from the Punk Rock art of the late 70's these plates are now a subversive message on politics, sex and the English Royal Family.

Stephen Colbert's Olympic Poster

As most of you know the Colbert Nation is the official sponsor of the US speed skating team and Stephen is an official member of the team. It makes sense then that Stephen Colbert would have his own Olympic poster. Designed by non other than Shepard Fairey the poster comes in the now famous "Hope" colorway and features Stephen riding an eagle.
Nick Gentry Embraces Outdated Technology

It's been said that technology is out of date as soon as you buy it. There is always something smaller, faster and cooler looking back at the research and development lab. This being the case we create a lot of technological waste like cassette tapes, floppy disk and VCR's. Artist Nick Gentry is recycling some of that junk for his paintings. His portraits of men and women on old computer disks are a great reminder of modern mans dependence on technology for better or worse.

Great piece by MSNBC's Dylan Ratigan mocking Glenn Beck and the rest of climate change deniers.
Go Faster (The Graphic Design of Racing Cars)

I've always been interested in the graphic elements of race cars. From the colors, racing stripes and font used for the numbers I love how graphinc design set cars apart. Now I'm not talking about those ugly NASCAR's with their gaudy ads for Bud Light, Walmart and Home Depot, no this is classic race car design. In this new book by Sven Voelker the colorful race cars are positioned next to white models showing how the design changes its appearance and allowing you to imagin how you would design it.

Underwater Sculpture Park

Artist Jason de Caires Taylor has created the world's first underwater sculpture park. The sculptures form a natural reef attracting local marine life and can be seen by divers, snorkelers and from glass bottom boats. The objects appearance is constantly changing due to lighting conditions and natural decay. In this sense it is almost a living exhibit that changes each time you view it.

My Playground - Freestyle Running
MY PLAYGROUND - PREVIEW from KASPARWORKS on Vimeo.
Just like skateboarders and BMX riders Freestyle Runners see their environment in a whole different way. The concrete jungle becomes more of a concrete playground where you are always looking for things to throw yourself off of. This film looks at the first park made for Freestyle Runners in Copenhagen and travels to China, Japan, England and America to look at the scene there. This could change the way you look at that boring walk to school, work or the grocery store.

We Are Skateboarders
Shit, who knew Poweredge was back? I remember reading that skate mag as a kid. So not only is the magazine back but it looks like they have a pretty interesting movie coming out as well. From the look of the trailer the movie has old footage and new mixed with interviews with rising stars and legends.

Alaska Nanooks 2010 Hockey Intro
Alaska Nanooks 2010 Hockey Intro from Szymon Weglarski on Vimeo.
This is definitely one of the better sports team intros I have seen. It's also good to see that polar bears aren't taking Global Warming sitting down. Now lets play some hockey!
